Motivation

During the late 1800s and well into the 1900s it seemed that every book that described the craters, mountains and other features of Earth's moon was titled The Moon. In my mind this came to stand for an encyclopedia-like series of descriptions of features on the lunar surface. In general, more recent books, especially those by professional scientists, describe the processes that formed and modified the Moon, and the surface features themselves are no longer described systematically. But for many lunar observers and others thinking about the Moon as a place, knowledge of individual features is important. See: The Moon Wiki

My friend, Marcus, wants me to take a photo of the Blue Moon. He thinks that rather than the idea of Blue as a term for loneliness and rarity (volcanic ash most often reddened the moon in earlier times) that it was in fact blue. Now, I cannot get the resolution but from what I can tell from the blurred photo it is indeed a very pale blue- but of course this would apply to any moon. Why is the moon blue? With full saturation I find the color "Moonlight Blue" a very useful reference for my paint graphics projects. Earth-shine could be a consideration or the simple fact that in a spectrum we have the extremes of violet and blue and only the rainbows can paint in the sky magenta.

  2. Hi ThePeSla,

There are different ways of looking at the Moon.....and from experimental research this has opened not only geological views but gravimetrical ones as well in terms of that geology.

Also some info on Blue Moon can be referenced-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_moon as to hold perspective with that upon which you ponder? Maybe you have other sources of info to supply?
